4th Marine Raider Battalion organized at Camp Joseph H. Pendleton, Oceanside, CA. Bn. composed of HQ, A, B and C Companies.
7 Nov 42
D Company organized at Camp Pendleton.
8 Dec 42
E and F Companies organized at Camp Pendleton.
10-25 Jan 43
Battalion aboard Naval vessels for amphibious training.
5 Feb 43
F Company disbanded, and Raider Replacement Training Company organized at the Training Center, Camp Pendleton, CA.
9 Feb 43
Battalion embarked aboard the USS President Polk (APA-103), at San Diego, CA., sailed, and arrived on l Mar 43, at Espiritu Santo Island, New Hebrides Islands.
15 Mar 43
1st Marine Raider Regiment organized on Espiritu Santo Island, New Hebrides Islands. Regiment composed of H&S Company, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Marine Raider Battalions.
22 Mar 43
Designation of the 4th Marine Raider Battalion, in the field, changed to 4th Raider Battalion, 1st Marine Raider Regiment, 1st Marine Amphibious Corps.
22 Mar 43
E Company is disbanded.
25 Mar 43
A Company designated as N Company.  B Company designated as O Company O Company designated as P Company.  P Company designated as Q Company.
31 May 43

Battalion embarked aboard the USS Penn (APA-25),-sailed, and arrived on 2 Jun 43, at Tetere, Guadalcanal, BSI.

20 Jun 43

O Company embarked aboard the USS Dent (APD-9). P Company embarked aboard the USS Waters (APD-8), at Tetere, Guadalcanal, BSI., sailed.

Arrived and participated in the occupation of Segi Point, New Georgia, BSI.

O and P Companies embarked in rubber boats at Segi Point, New Georgia, and debarked on 28 Jun 43 at Regi Village, New Georgia. Overland march to Viru Harbor begins.
F Company participated in the Choi River battle.

P Company (-) attacks Tombe Village on east bank of Viru Harbor. O Company (plus) attacks Tetamare Village on west bank of Viru Harbor. Viru Harbor captured.

O and P Companies embark aboard LCI 23 and LCI 331 at Viru Harbor, sail, and on 10 Jul 43, disembark at Tetere Point, Guadalcanal, BSI.
28 Jun 43
N Company embarked aboard the USS Schley (APD-14). Q Company embarked aboard the USS Mc Kean (APD-5), at Tetere Point, Guadalcanal, sailed, and arrived on 30 Jun 43, at Wickham Anchorage, Oloana Bay, Vangunu Island, New Georgia, BSI.
Battle of Kaeruka, Wickham Anchorage and occupation.
9 Jul 43
N and Q Companies embarked at Oloana Bay, Vangunu Is. and debarked at Gatukai Island, New Georgia, and carried out combat patrols.
12 Jul 43
The two companies returned to Oloana Bay, Vangunu Island, and embarked aboard LCI 331 and LCI 332, sailed, and arrived on 13 Jul 43 at Tetere Point, Guadalcanal, BSI.
7-18 Jul 43
Battalion embarked aboard the USS Mc Kean (APD-5), waters (APD-8), Kilty (APD-15) and the USS Ward (APD-16), at Tetere, Guadalcanal, and debarked at Enogai, New Georgia, BSI. Also known as the Dragons Peninsula.
Participated in the battle of Bairoko Harbor, New Georgia.
Patrols and mop-up. Occupation of the Dragons Peninsula at Enogai, New Georgia, BSI.
29 Aug 43
Battalion embarked aboard the USS McKean (APD-5), and the USS Waters (APD-8) at Enogai, New Georgia, BSI., and debarked at Tetere Point, Guadalcanal, BSI., on 30 Aug 43.
4 Sep 43
Battalion embarked aboard the USS American Legion (APA-17), at Tetere Point, Guadalcanal, sailed, and arrived at Noumea, New Caledonia on 8 Sep 43. At Camp Allard at Mission St. Louis.
l Oct 43
1st echelon of Battalion embarked aboard the SS. Mormac Port at Noumea, New Caledonia, sailed, and arrived at Auckland, NZ, 3 Oct 43, for rest and rehabilitation.
18 Oct 43
2nd echelon of Battalion embarked aboard the USS Rixey (APH-3) at Noumea, New Caledonia, sailed, and arrived at Auckland, NZ, 2l Oct 43, for rest and rehabilitation.
19 Oct 43
Embarked aboard the USS Tryon (APH-1) at Auckland, NZ, sailed, disembarked at Noumea, New Caledonia, on 22 Oct 43.
16 Nov 43
Embarked aboard the AUST. Maui at Auckland, NZ, Sailed, and arrived at Noumea, New Caledonia, on 20 Nov 43. Battalion at Camp Allard.
2l Dec 43
Battalion embarked at Noumea, New Caledonia aboard the MV. Bloemfontain, sailed, and arrived on 24 Dec 43, at Tassafaronga, Guadalcanal, BSI.
l Feb 44
4th Raider Battalion designated as 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines.
